🌡️ Keeping it Hot! P7 Science Investigation

20th Feb 2026
Our Primary 7 scientists were busy in the lab today investigating the power of insulation! 🧪
To find out which material is best at trapping heat, we set up a fair test using beakers of boiling water. We wrapped them in a variety of everyday materials to see which one would keep the water warmest for the longest.

🔍 The Line-Up:
We put these materials to the ultimate temperature test:
  • Newspaper 📰
  • Tin Foil
  • Cotton Wool ☁️
  • Neoprene 🏄‍♂️
  • Bubble Wrap 🫧

📈 The Method:
Using thermometers and stopwatches, we recorded the temperature change every 2 minutes. There was some fantastic teamwork on display as groups monitored their results and looked for patterns in the cooling curves.

The Big Question: Which material do you think came out on top? Was it the thick neoprene or the air-filled bubble wrap?

The results were surprising, and we had a great discussion about how insulators work by trapping air to prevent heat loss. Well done to all our budding physicists for their precise measuring and recording!
